The EMGP allows plunge freezing of very thin samples in liquid ethane. It is usually used to freeze monodisperse particles (macromolecules, viruses, bacteria) in a thin layer of vitreous ice on carbon coated electron microscopy grids. An environmental chamber with controlled temperature and humidity maintains the best possible conditions around the grid for the suspension just before cryopreservation and improves reproducibility.
Settings adjusted via a touch screen control panel displaying parameters
Presence of a stereomicroscope allowing controlling the different steps
Safe ethane filling and accurate control of its temperature
